Signing ceremony and news conference for revision and upgrading of Charming Xiangxi of Zhangjiajie was held in Beijing in the afternoon of Oct. 27th, participated by Feng Xiaogang, the chief director, Liu Huan, the music director, Wu Liqun, the music producer, Wang Yuanping, the music creator and artistic adviser, Wu Xiangdong, the producer and ,Chairman of Jindong Capital (VATS Group) , and Chu Zhonghui, the executive director, who jointly launched the revision and upgrading of "Charming Xiangxi", China's first original folk culture and art performance. The new performance will make its appearance in 2017.

Producer Wu Xiangdong cited an example of the eagle on the conference: Beak and claws of the eagle will be seriously aging at a certain age and its feathers becoming unfavorable for flying. At this point the eagle must make life and death choices: either to die, or make Nirvana. It firstly hits the rock with the beak until the beak is completely off; then rips off the aged nails on the claws with the new beak; and then plucks all the old feathers with the new nails. 150 days later the eagle will be reborn. Charming Xiangxi also needs to be reborn. Wu Xiangdong said: "We are very fortunate to invite the three masters of Feng Xiaogang, Liu Huan and Wu Liqun, which is a gospel for the people of Zhangjiajie, Xiangxi.We look forward to a better work of Charming Xiangxi from the three masters, and then the program will be more popular with tourists. We look forward to it coming soon.”

Chief Director Feng Xiaogang talked about his idea of revision. He said that twenty-five years ago he cooperated with Liu Huan in the TV series A Native of Beijing in New York and got great success, its theme music had been popular until now, and he hoped that new sparks would be created in the cooperation with Liu Huan and Wu Liqun this time. Liu Huan recalled at the conference that his visited Zhangjiajie for the first time in 1988 where his love began. It turned out that he met his wife in Zhangjiajie and that’s why he called Zhangjiajie "a place where love begins", and he said that he would work with all endeavor for the revision.

As a large-scale folk performance that has been conducted for 16 years, Charming Xiangxi presents the ethnic cultures and folk customs of the five minorities of "Miao, Bai, Dong, Yao and Tujia", and has given over 6400 performances for over 12 million audiences domestic and overseas accumulatively. The revision and upgrading work shall continue to take the core of Xiangxi culture in its creation.
